Once you start drawing patterns, you start seeing them everywhere. And then, you learn how to draw the tangle patterns step by step.

The Peakski tangle pattern started the same way.

New here?

If you’re new to the Zentangle Method, it’s a way of drawing structured patterns one stroke at a time, no sketch, no plan.

Learn the basics before diving into this pattern in the free ArtsAmuse mini-course.

Or simply follow the steps explained in this blog post.

You don’t need any art experience to draw this tangle pattern Peakski.

How it all began

It all started in the mountains. I was on the chairlift, enjoying the view of the snow-covered mountain. For some reason, my gaze landed on the tip of my daughter’s ski.

Here is the picture of my daughter’s skis.

Ski and pole tips seen from a chairlift above the snow, the shapes that inspired Peakski.

And I couldn’t look away.

My mind began to wander. I remained transfixed by those ski tips. I suddenly could see all the possibilities they could offer on a sheet of paper.

That’s when the Peakski tangle pattern was born.

Its name comes from two words: SunPeaks (the ski resort where I was) and “Ski,” for the tips of the pair of skis that were right in front of me at that moment.

I’ve been using it for a while now in my workshops and at Club ArtsAmuse, and everyone has a lot of fun creating with it.

I’ve also had a lot of comments on my Instagram photos asking for the step-outs for Peakski. So, I’m thrilled to share them with you today.

What Peakski looks like drawn out

The Peakski tangle pattern is fun to play with. It’s so simple, really two different strokes of your pen are enough to draw it. It’s also one tangle that can be drawn very differently if you start changing some parameters like the size of your pen strokes or the line weight or if you choose to add some Drama.

The Peakski Tangle Pattern Step Outs

To draw Peakski:

  1. Start with drawing a small reversed “U” shape or a round mountain shape.
  2. Add an orb in the upper part of the mountain shape.
  3. Repeat the process, adding more mountain shapes and orbs as you wish.
  4. Shade your drawing to create dimension.
