A list of 5 essentials tips to enhance your creative practice. While you practice the Zentangle Method™, these tips will help you take your creative practice to the next level.

Tip number 1 to Enhance your Creative Practice: Slow Down

I cannot tell you enough how important it is to slow down. Those of you who have taken classes with me know this is something I repeat all the time. Learning to slow down as you draw is a useful skill. It helps you to see where you go and be more in control of your pen on the paper. I suggest you try it. Remind yourself to go slow and see the change. As you practice with the Zentangle Method™, as you draw or even in life, slowing down will be something the allows you to be more present to what you do or draw. And I found out that everything is enhanced from this practice of slowing down.

Tip number 2 to Enhance your Creative Practice: Breathe

I breathe, you breathe, we all breathe! Another important aspect of any creative practice – or in life. I don’t know about you, but there are stressful moments in life when I know I am not breathing in a relaxed way. As I practiced more and more with the Zentangle Method™, I learned to slow down my breath, be more mindful of how and when I breathe. Try scanning your body and your breath regularly, listen to the message your body or your breath is giving you. You will see how much it helps.

Tip number 3 to Enhance your Creative Practice: Practice Again and Again

It may seem simple, this tip. But as the saying goes “practice makes perfect”, even though we are not striving for perfection.  As you learn new techniques et draw with the Zentangle Method, remember this tip to practice again and again . Each time you repeat a step, or a series of lines, you start to internalize step-by-step each of the steps of the method. And, eventually, this will become second nature and will open new possibilities you may not have thought of before. This is true in life as well, don’t you think?

Tip number 4 to Enhance your Creative Practice: Change Something

At some point, we face the difficulty of doing the same thing again and again and maybe we feel stuck in our creative practice. This feeling is most certainly born from what we are thinking in that moment, but we may feel stuck anyway. One tip I recommend is to then change some something, change a factor in the way you draw for example. What if you change the scale of your drawing? What happens then? How different will it look?

Tip number 5 to Enhance your Creative Practice: Explore Possibilities

This tip is closely related to tip number 4. The next step is to explore more possibilities. Ask yourself “what else can I do with this? This “what else” question is essential to grow your creative practice. It pushes us to explore and dare. Don’t let your thoughts or what you may think as vulnerabilities stop you. The more vulnerable you are, the more you dare, the more you will enhance your creative practice.

My advice for today is to chose one tip, try it and see what happens.
